The Asthma Project

The Asthma Project for 2025-26 is currently underway! Sign-ups are now closed, but message us on Facebook or Instagram to see if you can still join!

What is the asthma project?

Across 4 sessions we will be teaching you about asthma (tying in with your pre-clinical knowledge), clinical respiratory medicine and about how to deliver a presentation. We'll also teach you all the necessary safeguarding info you need to know. These sessions will take place early in Michaelmas term. After this you will go out to primary schools and teach kids about asthma!

Why should I do this?

1. It's important for kids to know about asthma! 1 million children in the UK receive treatment for asthma and while it is often perceived as mild, asthma can kill, and early recognition of an asthma attack can save lives

2. You get to learn about clinical medicine! We know pre-clin can sometimes feel far removed from your future career as a doctor, so this is great opportunity to learn about clinical medicine from clinical medics and make those respiratory physiology lectures feel worth it!

3. Looks great on your CV. Teaching experience is always useful on a medical student's CV

4. Very low commitment. It’s only 3 sessions and then teaching at minimum one primary school

5. Paeds Exposure! Whether you were born knowing you wanted to be a paediatrician or you have absolutely no idea, paeds is a great speciality and it's great to get started early!
